This is because I&#8217;ve been posting regular posts for my current Torah client at <a href=\"http:\/\/hasoferet.com\/cbh\">their special blog<\/a>, and I haven&#8217;t had energy to do two lots of posts or to set up proper cross-posting. The passage in question is \u05d5\u05d9\u05e9\u05dc\u05d7 \u05d0\u05ea \u05d4\u05e2\u05e8\u05d1 \u05d5\u05d9\u05e6\u05d0 \u05d9\u05e6\u05d5\u05d0 \u05d5\u05e9\u05d5\u05d1 \u05e2\u05d3 \u05d9\u05d1\u05e9\u05ea \u05d4\u05de\u05d9\u05dd \u05de\u05e2\u05dc \u05d4\u05d0\u05e8\u05e5, <i>He sent forth the raven, and it went out repeatedly and returned, until the waters had dried up from the earth<\/I>. <\/p>\n<div style=\"clear:both;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/hasoferet.com\/cbh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/erasing-tools.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/hasoferet.com\/cbh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/erasing-tools-300x264.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"300\" height=\"264\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-97\" \/><\/a>\u05d9\u05d1\u05e9\u05ea vs \u05d9\u05e9\u05d1\u05ea, you see. Both versions make sense, but one of them is wrong, and so it has to be fixed.<\/p>\n<p>Tools for fixing, left to right: electric eraser, scalpel, burnishing tool, rose thorn, eraser.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/hasoferet.com\/cbh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/erasing_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/hasoferet.com\/cbh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/erasing_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"300\" height=\"182\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-92\" \/><\/a>As <a href=\"http:\/\/hasoferet.com\/cbh\/2011\/12\/04\/a-single-mistake-invalidates-the-entire-sefer-torah\/\">discussed last week<\/a>, you first remove the ink. Some like to use electric erasers for this; with the right grade of abrasive tip, the electric eraser makes short work of the ink. At present I&#8217;m in a phase of preferring a scalpel; what you lose on speed, you gain in finesse.<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/hasoferet.com\/cbh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/erasing_3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/hasoferet.com\/cbh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/erasing_3.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"300\" height=\"148\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-93\" \/><\/a>Eventually it&#8217;s all gone. At this point, you use the eraser to clear any bits of ink that didn&#8217;t brush off. Then you burnish the surface so that it&#8217;s good to write on. You use the rose thorn to re-score the line (it&#8217;s hard and about the right thickness to match the existing lines, plus extensive biblical\/poetic symbolism of roses).<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/hasoferet.com\/cbh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/erasing_4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/hasoferet.com\/cbh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/erasing_4.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"300\" height=\"220\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-94\" \/><\/a>Rewrite properly. They stand out a bit while they&#8217;re still wet&#8230;<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/hasoferet.com\/cbh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/erasing_5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/hasoferet.com\/cbh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/erasing_5.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"s\" width=\"300\" height=\"68\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-95\" \/><\/a>&#8230;but once they&#8217;ve dried you can&#8217;t really tell the difference.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been neglecting you a bit, I&#8217;m afraid.
